Watson

The game announcers went on and on how great of an OC he is. That he's proven he just needs to get his players in there like Teddy Bridgewater as a pocket passer. Earlier in the game they said how great the Arky OC is because he went from coaching Drew Bree's at Purdue and another passing program in a heavy passing game and now he adapted to who his players are at Ark with a solid running game. I just don't see this Watson being a proven OC that they were talking about.

I heard the same thing. They must have been filling space with talk, trying to find something good to say about both OC's.

The problem is that the Ark. OC has the record to back it up, while Watson does not.

Please enlighten me. Where has Watson performed well to elevate an offense to heights of excellence. That would be good news not only to me but for most on this board.

The arky DC did develop a fine passing game at Purdue, and has developed a fine running game at arky.

uh, my statement is based off facts. comparing a guy that has been in his position at arky for two years versus watson at one year, neither did very well their first year, however, watson has done better his first year than the guy at arky did in his first. Winless vs. bowl eligible in first year, i'm not saying it was pretty but facts are facts.
Im just saying folks on here are jumping the gun before he can actually recruit himself some players. both of the guys resumes aren't much to speak of prior to these gigs.

My concern with Watson is his "we did this at Louisville with Teddy" line...that's old. You aren't in Kentucky anymore and Teddy's wearing a Viking's uniform. If Watson is going to be stuck in the past and yearn to make these Texas players fit the mold of that team, we are in big trouble...Either recruit the players you need to do what you want to do or devise an offensive strategy that works with the players that you have right now! I'm really afraid Shawn Watson is not the answer and we waste a few years in this project in figuring this out...I really hope I'm wrong about him.

Yeah exactly. Teddy Bridgewater is so last year. He was drafted in 2014!

Why hasn't Watson produced an NFL caliber quarterback here? He's been here almost a year now and there's no First Round Draft Choice in site at QB position.

Some of you sunshine pumpers may point out the first quarterback he and Charlie recruited will arrive on campus in August 2015 and that they redshirted a true frosh in 2014. Jesus, how long can he expect us to stay patient?

The better coaches modify their systems or schemes to maximize the skill sets of the players they have available.

I guess that's one way to do it. A lot of successful coaches -- like at Baylor, Florida State, Oregon, Kansas State, Arkansas and Wisconsin now, Tech under Leach -- put their schemes in place and stick with it, gradually bringing in/developing the personnel that fit the system.

Crockett, I don't disagree. But, until those programs can bring in "their types of players," they should adapt to what they have.

I know that Watson's offense is so offensive to make you forget where you are, but just a mild reminder to my friends, that this is the recruiting board

.... Lord knows we have enough threads with Watson in the main football board.
