Water swallows parking slots
Water bubbling up out of city storm sewers has put more than 200 parking spaces in Lot D, east of TD Ameritrade Park, out of commission for the College World Series, officials said Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, which oversees the stadium and the Qwest Center Omaha, is working with the City of Omaha and engineers to contain the water and protect the rest of the parking lot, officials said.

The lost spaces are in the northeast part of the lot, which has nearly 2,300 spaces.

The total number of parking spaces around the stadium and the Qwest Center is close to 5,000.

Water was gurgling out of the storm sewer grates in parts of the D-17 and D-18 sections on Tuesday afternoon. Water was visible about an inch below the grates in other areas.

MECA officials said the lost spaces would be replaced elsewhere around the ballpark and Qwest Center.

OK, so which CWS team has the best swimmers?

Rain? Yep. In Montana and South Dakota. All upstream of Omaha on the Missouri River. Not that we haven't had a pretty wet spring here.

Blair, N of Omaha where I work, is evacuating folks in low-lying areas and the Ft Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant between Blair and Omaha, is nearly surrounded by the rising Mizzou.

But our lawns look GREAT!

Good thing parking's never been a CWS problem.

There's always somebody's yard to park in. Too bad about the lost income to the folks just north of I-80 & 13th St.

PSA:
For folks planning to drive from Kansas City to Omaha, I-29 is closed from Exit 10 in Iowa to one of the Glenwood exits, Exit 32 or 35.

US 75 from Topeka and US 81 N of Wichta should still be ok.

Per US Senator Johanns as of yesterday:

"The College World Series is scheduled to begin as planned tomorrow. TD Ameritrade Park and the surrounding parking lots remain dry, but officials are taking precautionary "measures by sandbagging along the area."

FWIW, right now it's RAINING in Papillion, that famous 'burb S of Omaha. I added my rain top & bottom to the pile in the entryway. See y'all at the ballpark.

Beat the HELL outta Florida!
