OK guys. In the past few days a couple of water spots have formed on my celiing and seem to be getting bigger. There's one slab of drywall that seems to be getting wet and it looks like it is sagging as well like it wants to fall through. It was dripping water for one day but hasn't since. Im pretty sure it's the a/c unit above it but havent got in the atic to look around.

Do i need to call an a/c guy or just get the ceiling fixed.

help!

Where do you live?

Start with the A/C; it could be something as easy as your drip tray being clogged with algae buildup.

If it is NOT the air conditioner, it could be something related to the roof & that's where a guy like me come into play; there are dozens of individual components that could be in failure if it IS the roof.

AFTER the air conditioner is fixed, THEN you move to the drywall / tape / float / texture / paint situation.

1. Clogged drain line causing drain pan to overflow. The drain should be made of plastic. If it's black plastic, then you can pull it apart at a connection point. If it's PVC (white) then you may have to cut it and after cleaning, re-connect it with a coupling. You can get a coupling at any hardware store. I just blow it out using lung power...if its clogged a water house or air compressor is better.

2. Contactor on the compressor is sticking or is stuck in the on position. If the lines outside or in your attic are frozen and the compressor runs constantly, this is the case. Replace the contactor.

I had a similar problem last year. The copper drain line for the condensation pan in my A/C went bad.

Most common problem is the drain from the A/C. As stated, the water condenses on the coils, and drips down off them. A pan catches this water, then it should flow into a small drain pipe that goes through a hole in a wall to the outdoors.
The pan gets rusted out, or it may have been caulked with silicon sealer which has cracked.
Otherwise, the drain is clogged with algae, spider webs, dirt dobbers, or other gunk. Putting a cup of bleach in the drain once or twice a year is a good idea. Might clear it out.
