Water Heater Brand Recommendation

Are there any particular brands of water heaters you recommend (or advise I should stay away from?). Also, is it best to get the max number of warranty years(12 seems to be the max)?

Thanks Coach - I was talking to a Sears salesman yesterday and he mentioned that Kenmore water heaters are manufactured by State. I may just end up going that way.
