Watching HBOs The Wire on Netflix

I don't allocate much of my time to watching television, so I have been pretty selective about what I watch and when. I've been a big fan of many of the HBO series, but missed out watching the The Wire when it first aired. I don't like to try to get into a series mid-season or try to start with a later season, so with the sports season lull before football starts, I finally got around to putting this series at the top of my Netflix queue.

Just finished seasons 1 and 2, and about to start season 3. The show sucked me in pretty quickly, and I'm a little bummed that when I get to and finish season 5 that I'll have to move on to something else.

About the show itself, I think my favorite thing about it, aside from the excellent cast and acting, is the writing. I like how things are messy, complicated, and not all of the cases get wrapped up with a neat little bow like most network cop dramas. I understand now why everyone always had such great things to say about this show. Great job HBO!

After finishing this series, thinking about giving Mad Men and Rescue Me a shot.

Just marathoned Mad Men Seasons 1 and 2 in anticipation of Season 3 starting in a couple weeks. If you enjoyed The Wire, Mad Men will be right up your alley.

Best show ever. Writing is fantastic. It's a shame more so many people have never seen it.

Ridiculous that it never won any Emmy's or other major awards and sometimes was not even nominated.

Did you know that McNulty and Stringer are both British actors who use an American accent for the show? Tiny cool tidbit you may have known but others did not.

I love spotting Wire actors in other shows now and am happy for them. I forget what season this was from but it is not a spoiler. Just yesterday I thought of the word, "Hamsterdam" and chuckled.

Hamsterdam. Haha.

Once in a while I spend an hour on youtube checking out the Omar clips.

"Wha, you ain't got the Honey Nut?"

I am sure most HBO aficionados also saw Ziggy as Corporal Person, the Humvee driver in Generation Kill.

the wire was the most unique and thought provoking television series i've ever seen. i'm not sure how realistic the cop life is on the show, but the street life is very real from almost all accounts. it is a time capsule for inner city life at the turn of the century. in 50 years, if people want to know what it was like to live inner city baltimore in 2003, they should watch the wire.

one word: hamsterdam

******* Omar was the ****.

"Caw-ton of New-poats".

In all seriousness, has there ever been another homosexual character on any show that is an absoutely scary *** ************?

Netflix is a great way to watch it as you watch 3 episodes back to back and then you've got 2 days to digest/withdraw and boom the fix is there again.

The only drawback is that the episodes are so strong that I have to bite my tongue from using bad language in commonplace situations.

Good call.

Clay ******* Davis.

Next to Bodie, he's my favorite character.

Except for Cheese.

And Slim Charles.

And Snoop.

And Kima

And WeeBay

And Bunk

And Freamon

And Burrell

And Daniels

And Landsman

And Beatie

And Omar

And Prop Joe

And String

And Poot

And Avon

And Horseface

And The Greek

And Sobatka
