Washington DC and Thereabouts

Looks like I will have to promise to use my planned Sept week off in and around Washington. I know the Smithsonean is a must, I'm all for that. And a stroll in the vicinity of the monuments. After this my interest is nil. Perhaps its my dislike for politics.

Anyway, what should be in the plan for 5-7 days n D.C? How to handle hoteling without getting ripped off with downtown prices? How about a trip to Baltimore or down the Chesepeake? Like Nicholson, I'm interested in crab.

lots of good destinations within a short drive from DC. i'd recommend checking out annapolis. nice little scenic town to walk around. my favorite crab spot is just outside of the town, on a river, and been there for a long time cantler's

I second the Spy Museum, and you definitely can't go wrong with crab in Baltimore. If you like baseball, you can easily buy tickets to a game in RFK for the upper deck in CF and end up sitting in the lower deck between the dugouts. If you happen to do this for a day game, you can end up getting insanely close.

Last time I was in the District, I found this little Thai place on K Street called Bangkok One. Nothing fancy or expensive, but it's locally owned, the place was quiet, and the food was tasty. It's about a block north of the McPherson Square stop on the blue/orange lines.
