washer/dryer combination units

Well the wash machine was a free castoff from a neighbor and the dryer just died. Pondering one of the combination washer/dryer machines likes this LG. Does anyone have opinions?
Pros: start and go, no switching. No need to vent. Only one box = easier to move.
Cons: smaller loads, ~4 hour cycle times. I'd have to rethink how I do laundry (biweekly mega loads vs. every other day as I head out the door for work).

buddy of mine has one and doesn't really like it. says its too much of a pain with such a small load. then again, he's lazy, so who knows.

I believe LG is a Czech company.

Figured i'd throw that in there for now reason. My brother's wife's family has an LG combo and it seemed to take an unGodly amount of time. You should save money on water/gas, too, yes?

yeah, they are supposed to be the most energy and water effecient machines around. It would suck if it wasn't big enough to do queen size bedding. LG is just one brand, I think siemens and a few others make em too. I figured the NYC crew would have some personal experiences with them.

I have a smallish (1000 SF or so) apartment in the city and I bought a Kenmore stack and nuked half of a hall closet for it. One of the better moves I made. No complaints. I didn't even think about looking anywhere else because I knew Sears would stand behind the product and they always have sales. FWIW.

got an LG TROMM washer and dryer (stackable, not the all in one unit). They have kicked *** so far. Have the larger models and they are quick. I think the key is that the spin cycle in the washer is so powerfull. The clothes are almost dry coming out of the washer.

We got em at best buy.

I just bought the old kind of washer dryer and am marveling at the advances especially in the dryer. It seems that it doesn't heat as much as it sucks out the water.

I bought this washer and it's matching dryer:

Although I did get them from sam's club not from the linked description from Sears.

Smaller loads and 4 hour cycles???

Souns like it is only possibly pratical for a bachelor who never/rarely washes his linens. I would seriously be wary considering how full a normal unit gets trying to wash bedding.

I'm not sure they dry that well either -- a friend has one and he's always complaining about his wet jeans -- I tell him incontinence is a personal matter.
