Was Joe Wilson right?

If this report on HHS' plans is true it calls into credibility Obama's claim during a SOTU that the reforms he was proposing for Obamacare would not apply to people here illegally.

"The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Tuesday that it has awarded $28.8 million to 67 community health centers with funds from the Obamacare health reform law.

Of that $28.8 million, "approximately $8.5 million will be used by 25 New Access Point awardees to target services to migrant and seasonal farm workers," Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Spokeswoman Judy Andrews told CNSNews.com. HRSA is a part of HHS.

Andrews said that grant recipients will not check the immigration status of people seeking services."

The Link

There must be more to this than what it looks like from this one article.

Community Health Centers don't exist to provide services to illegal immigrants, but it is inevitable that some who receive services will be here illlegally. It is the same with hospitals, which receive Medicare and Medicaid.

In my opinion, it would be a disaster to try to force health care providers to require proof of citizenship regardless of whether you believe they should all be deported or given warm snuggly hugs.

For one thing, communicable diseases transmission would arguably occur faster and more aggressively. For another, if community health centers screened patients, many would simply show up in more expensive emergency rooms where it would be much more difficult to deny care, and potentially dangerous to all ER patients to implement this process (given that many actually are emergent).

As an added bonus (for all of you business as opposed to social conservatives), it probably gives you a better ROI on your cheap labor force to keep chronic conditions in check.

In sum, there is no program or policy for federal funds to help iillegal immigrants from the healthcare reform act, but it is inevitable that some of those dollars (and all of the other billions going to providers) will end up treating some illegals.

If they were required to check immigration status, people would ***** that it's just more regulation from the federal government.

I think the next time I need to go to the doctor, I'll just tell them i don't have any insurance and that I don't have any money to pay them. That will work, right?

Agree.

Likewise Obama should not have been calling out the Supreme Court Justices in the same speech. Respect is a two way street.

Shiner is right. Civility should go both ways.

The real point is not whether Jow was right or not as he cleary was but in why we continue to allow this to happen?

Hopefully Nov 2012 we can say No More lies.

How utterly silly. Are you really trying to equate anyone else , even a potential candidate, with a sitting POTUS speaking at a SOTU?

Not even close.

Huh? I'm not equating anyone with anything. You said:

"Hopefully Nov 2012 we can say No More lies."

I took that to mean you hope we can elect someone in 2012 who never lies. Was that not what you meant?

So all I wondered was, if you wanted to elect a non-liar in 2012, who would you elect?

ah johnnym
I can see you pretended to not understand what I posted so you could get on here and try to change the intent.
let me post slowly
in Nov 2012 we can elect a different POTUS, one who won't lie on the floor of Congress during a SOTU speech.

That is what I meant period. I happen to think a SOTU address spoken before the entire Congress and most of the SCOTUS on every media platform in the country and around the world has a higher standard pf credibility that things Obama, Bachman Romeny Biden or any candidate on a campaign trail

do you think it was ok for Obama to say what he said during the SOTU when we now have his HRSA spokesperson telling us illegals can get medical care at obamacare funded clinics?

I didn't pretend to not understand. Good god man, you live in some fantasy world. Which of the candidates out there do you think is not a liar? Do you think they are all liars, but you just prefer them to Obama? Or do you believe any of them are not liars at all? Do you want to end "the lying" or do you just want to end "Obama's lying"? There's a tangible difference between the two.

I think it was uncouth for Obama to say what he did, but it's not anywhere near the same as having an outburst as an audience member. If Obama was sitting in on a SC hearing and had a Wilson-esque outburst, I would favor impeaching him. To use the SOTU to address things in government that he doesn't like is exactly what the SOTU is for. He didn't point, heckle, or single out any justices - he made a comment on a SC ruling. Why is that not ok? Most people say that it wasn't fair b/c they didn't have the ability to respond, which is completely ignorant because the SC justices wouldn't respond ANYWAY, that's not what they do.

A few other points:

Wilson's outburst wasn't during a SOTU, so what lie during a SOTU are you talking about?

Obama didn't lie when he said the reforms would not apply to illegal immigrants. He didn't say that the reforms would STOP illegal immigrants from getting the same care that they were already getting (which is understandably upsetting to some), but the health care bill does not mandate coverage for illegal immigrants nor really change anything about how/where they get care.

Same system failure continues. Did you know that instead of US detention centers that used enhanced interrogation techniques on occasion, that we now send prisoners to the Afghanistan authorities who use torture to extract information and to punish the enemy?

You are way too funny. But I will play along for now.
Tell me which candidate has stood before Congress at a SOTU address( you know the topic in the OP?) and lied?
