WaPo List of College Games to See This Fall

Texas-USC and Texas-OU are on the list, not surprisingly. Not exactly complimentary to Texas, but better than being ignored altogether ...

Southern Cal at Texas (Sept. 15, 8 p.m., Fox): Tom Herman won seven games in his first season in Austin, hardly better than the three seasons of mediocrity under Charlie Strong that came before it. The problems centered mostly on an offense that didn’t scare anyone, and one has to wonder if that side of the ball will be the problem again this season.

Texas vs. Oklahoma in Dallas (Oct. 6, time and TV TBD): The Longhorns have been middling-to-bad for the entirety of this decade, but the past four games in the Red River Rivalry each were decided by a touchdown or less, with the Longhorns winning one of them.

As someone who watched all of the games during the "mediocrity under Charlie Strong," I don't know how an unbiased observer can come along, see the games that Herman coached, and state that it was "hardly better."

It's also strange that in an OU preview, he doesn't mention that OU has, like, a new team this year.

A winning season including a bowl game win is not “hardly better” than any of three losing seasons under Strong. It is a lot better. From what I understand Herman has never had a losing season.
