Want a wii, what do I need

What's the basic, get you started necessities for a wii? We have HD, so that would factor into things.

Thanks in advance.

The Wii box includes everything you need to hook the system up to a standard television: the Wii console, a wireless controller with nunchuk adapter, the sensor bar, a cradle (for mounting the console vertically), the Wii's modestly sized power adapter, and a set of composite A/V cables. Unfortunately, composite cables don't support the Wii's top resolution of 480p, so HDTV owners will want to also purchase a set of Wii component cables (sold separately).

cheapest component cables can be found at monoprice.com, along with a lot of other stuff.

zelda
mariokart + one extra wheel
2 classic controllers so you can play old nintendo games you download from the wii store.

I have four controllers which is nice when there are 4 people playing, especially trivia games. I also really like the rechargeable battery packs/stations I bought. It really got old switching batteries all the time.

Super Mario Galaxy is an incredibly fun game.

It only comes with one controller and nunchuck, so budget an extra $60 for another set if you don't want to play with yourself. Most people buy Wii Play to get a second controller.

I'd get two nunchucks- that's sufficient for 2 player boxing and covers most games. 4 Wiimotes are nice, but it's been rare when I've had 4 people wanting to play simultaneously. If you want to play SNES games get the classic controller attachment, but otherwise it's not really needed. A gamecube controller (preferably a Wavebird) is nice if you want something traditional.

My game recommendations are:

1. Mario Galaxy- this is one of the best games I've ever played, and definitely the crown jewel of the system. Really well made platformer.

2. Mario Kart Wii- great racing game. Best online play on the Wii. Hours and hours of fun and mayhem, and because of the item variety it never seems to get old.

3. Wii Play- Game isn't much, but it's $50 for a $40 Wiimote and 15 little games. Buy it for the Wiimote.

4. Guitar Hero 3- Best music game on Wii- has online play (which Rock Band doesn't). Guitar is also compatible with Guitar Hero Aerosmith and upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour.

5. Wii Fit- Impossible to find, but a lot of fun. Really good at making you conscious of your weight. The Yoga is more fun than you'd typically think. If you have a blast with some of the motion aspects of Wii Sports, this is a good progression.

I'd keep my eyes out for Animal Crossing soon, especially if you have a spouse who's not much of a gamer. My wife won't normally play games, but this one really suckered her in on Gamecube.
