Walter E. Long Lake?

Has or does anybody go out to this lake? I have lived in Austin for 4 years now and I have never even heard of it. On the map it looks fairly large. So whats the scoop on it?

I live out that way. I don't think it is much of a recreational lake, but I have heard that it is a decent fishing lake. Only has one boat ramp, really isn't very big.

i've been there once to fish for hybrids. but most of the people on the austin bass boards refer to that place as "ghetto long lake". it's apparently not very safe. many have reported their cars broken into when they were out fishing. and supposedly, don't go out there at night.

but the hybrid fishing was good so there's more than carp in that lake.

when I caught my prized carp (and I'm serious that it was the biggest fish I've ever caught) it was at night and we found ourselves in a snake pit.

so while you're being cautious about fishing at night and having your car broken into, also consider you may be eaten by snakes

The local politicos made a shitload of money with the insider land dealing before that lake's construction was publically announced back in the '60's
The FIRST Channel 36 in Austin broke the story showing copies of the land transactions on the air. LBJ then had the FCC pull their broadcast license a few months later.

Bet a lot of you didn't know that.

They are doing a lot of construction in that area at this time and I wonder if it will drive more snakes to that area being water? I don't think I will ever go there.

How bad are stumps or other underwater obstructions at this lake? Specifically, how likely am I to hit something in a boat. Obviously, I would need to avoid the dragons, giant fish, and unpainted's piss.

Few if any stumps in the lake.
I used to ski there after work in the afternoons, even in winter as the water is warm from the discharge from the power plant.
Fishing is fair to good at times.
Haven't been in a few years so I don't know about the break-in issues at the public ramp..........or the outbreak of pissing and snakes.
