Walter Cronkite said near death

If this is true ...

I have a feeling, or hope, that from the Daily Texan on to just about everybody in that business will have a ton of tributes and great deserving words for a true legend. Hopefully the DT will run a weeks worth of articles and accomplishments of his.

I recall at one time either in a link to Texags or an aggy here referred to the us getting the WhataBurger guy to do our "We're Texas" commercials. I am pretty sure it was a Texags link and they trounced on him. The man transcends the Texas and A&M thing, I think. It was cool to see them work this guy over some. Whataburger guy, lol. Not quite.

When I was a kid, I watched the CBS evening news with Walter Cronkite with my father almost every weekday. I really didn't care about the news that much, but there was just something special about watching and hearing him deliver it. My dad's attitude was that it wasn't news unless it came from Cronkite.

He was the face of a great news organization. Great man.

His daughter was a radio personality in Austin during the 80s.

One of the most respected and admired people in the history of our country. A great American that has led a great life.

It has been a hard lesson for me to learn personally, because I have known death as intimately as anyone can in my life, but I have come to believe that it is not a cause for sadness, but is in large part a release from the suffering in this world. Walter is 92 now and he deserves a break. My thoughts and prayers to all that will miss him.

If ever anyone deserved one of these

it is Walter Cronkite. He is the face of the profession of journalism, and I can't help wondering if what it has become is killing him.

What a great man, and great representative of our University. His "We're Texas" would not have been near as good with anyone else doing them.

God Bless you Walter.
