Wakeboarding in the Hill Country or South Texas

Okay, I'm an avid wakeboarder and we are looking to take a trip south (from dallas) next month to go wakeboarding. We are looking preferrably for a river.

We usually go to the Brazos just north of Lake Whitney, it's pretty much perfect for this.... but we want to go somewhere hopefully a little warmer this time of year. We have a drysuit so water temperature is not an issue.

I know of a place in Ingram, TX that you can wakeboard on the Guadalupe right next to the damn, but I haven't seen it since I started wakeboarding so I don't remember the exact details (length etc.).

Does anybody on here know of specific areas of the Brazos, Guadalupe, etc. that you have actually seen people wakeboarding/waterskiiing on.. or done it yourself? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any advice about your specific questions about the brazos or the guad...the times i've been on those rivers has been to canoe/fish. but given your question and the fact you're an avid wake boarder makes me think you're just looking for good water.

Your best bet south of Dallas is the Highland Lakes (Colorado River) that runs through the hill country down through austin. Of those lakes, Lake Austin prob offers the best water quality...the others are either too crowded or too big and effected by the wind. You can drop your boat in at the 360 bridge access.

On lake austin the further up river - toward the damn at lake travis - you go the narrower it gets and the less crowded it gets. There aren't even any houses up there, just ranch land. It's a hike but well worth it...the water is calm and cold!

i live in austin and when my friends and i want to ski/wake board, that's where we go. after you're finished you can have a drink at Hula Hut....

You may try the same strategy on Lake Travis...just drive up river. I've never done it before but seems an option worth looking into, it's a big lake so you'd have to get advice of direction and where to put in, as well as info on the lake level...the lake is the lowest it's been in years.

Wakeboarding happens on Lake Dunlap, Lake McQueeny and Lake Placid, all on the Guadalupe bewteen New Braunfels and Seguin. I see it and have done it on all three. These lakes are really fat parts of the Guadalupe and not lakes.

We do all of our wakeboarding on Lake Travis, good to go early in the morning on weekends or during the week (can't count how many times we've been out after 2pm, its great). I'd suggest LT over Lake Austin because theres a lot more room and if there is bad wind, you can find a good spot behind a cliff. The only downside is that there are only one or two public ramps left since it's so shallow right now (still plenty of deep water left though), but I don't think you'd have a problem in march since the lake is still going to be pretty damn cold. Lots of over stuff to do if you get tired of Wakeboarding.. 65 miles of lake. If you end up deciding on LT, let me know, I'll fill you in on my usual spots.
