Wait a minute...

It's never in good taste when either side of the gun argument uses one of these tragedies to further their agenda. I also say that as a chl holder.

I'm not familiar with the Chicago gun law the OP spoke of, so I question whether it covers the suburbs or not. For instance, Dallas has smoking ordinances that Addison does not. Didn't really think that was

worthy.

Not saying that I agree or disagree with the gun ban being discussed.

You have to start somewhere... if the citizens or their elected representative of the Chicago / Chicago suburb believe this is something that should be enacted & the rest of the region / state / nation won't make this change, then do they have the ability or right to do so, even though borders can easily be crossed?

How about California enacting strict emission & fuel efficiency laws that in effect pull the rest of the nation along? Similar effect if it's in large enough measure.

Someone can easily visit Cali with their smog pumper just like someone can cross borders with a gun.

Why am I a douchebag by pointing out the fact that the massive restrictions on gun ownership only affects those citizens who abide by the law?

The entire premise for such restrictions is that the law-abiding populace is safer because they are prohibited from having firearms.

The fact that these innocent people were slain is demonstrative that such notions are flawed. Not only did the criminal ignore the restrictions (which is what criminals do), but these people were further inhibited by the inability to potentially defend themselves.

So my douchebag point is to suggest that perhaps placing further restrictions on law abiding citizens isn't the answer to reducing either crime or violence.

Perhaps one answer would be to increase penalties for those who commit crimes with the use of a firearm.

But then again, what do I know? I'm just a douchebag.

I agree the OP was in poor taste. It's almost as if you are happy this happened so that you can come onto a football message board and sound off against people you disagree with.

Also, using a single example as evidence for your argument just isn't that convincing. Most believe dropping out of college is a bad thing....yet Dell seems to be doing alright. Does that mean every person should forget about education?

It's the overall trends that make a difference, not an anomaly here and there.

Either way -- how about you let the bodies cool before you sound off.

If some gang banger/crackhead walks into a store with an illegal weapon and opens fire, a city ordinance isn't going to stop them. I doubt any of the customers and/or employees in a women's full figured clothing store is going to be packing with a right to carry permit.

What a specious post. I should come on here 50 times per day and opine that when every accidental shooting occurs, it wouldn't have happened had there been more gun control laws. I could sure list a lot more than these five victims every day.
