Voting in your opponents' primary

What are the thoughts here on voting in the primary of the side you want to lose? I've always looked down on it, as voting for someone to lose screws up the whole system. Am I the only one?

I think the presidency is too important to treat it like a sports team. I don't think you should look at it as my guy versus "theirs". Let's not forget that "they" are still us.

I have no issue voting in the opposition's primary... provided you are voting for the person you think is the best candidate in the party's field. If your candidate's nomination is not in doubt, you probably SHOULD vote in the other primary.

That said, if you are voting to subvert the process (voting for a better matchup for your candidate in the general), then you are douchebag and deserve what you get when "your guy" loses.

The mindset that "I want the worst candidate to be nominated by the opposition so that my party (team) will win" drives me crazy. It is incredibly short sighted.

Shouldn't we want the best president possible regardless of whether they have an R or D next to their name?

Whatever, wash, it is a shortsighted thing todo for either party. If you care enough to vote in a primary (any primary) you should care enough to vote for the better candidate.

I'm a yellowdog Dem and have never pushed the "R" button regardless of the election, but I have no problem w/ someone voting as PuddleCruiser says he will.

Hey, it's a free country w/ a free electoral process.  It's only politics.

Meso, having the freedom to act like an asshat, doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to call you out for what you do. I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to vote tactically, I just think it is a shallow cynical shortsighted thing to do.

They think it's tactful, I think it plays into the D's hands. Vote for O because you can't stand H, fine - I couldn't stand RR or GWB either. Vote for either O or H because you want to see that person running against McCain, great! EIther Obama or Clinton will kick his *** regardless.

Cynical and shortsighted? Definitely....they are afterall Republicans. But it's not a dirty trick as was the entire Watergate affair, the Muskie letter, Bush's "wins" in Ohio and Fla, etc.

It's just a few votes from a few disgruntled folks. There will be more Republicans who will vote for O - or some even for H - because they are truly disgusted by what their party has become. All votes are welcomed.

Gotta go.....off to the fb practice, maybe some Augie ball, capped off by the Obama rally.

I guess I'm an ******* and a douchebag, because I'm sure as hell using my vote to vote AGAINST Hillbilly.

And as another poster noted, I am fully aware that Obama will have better odds to beat McCain than Hillbilly. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Right now, all I want to see is that horrid ***** crying genuine tears because her dreams of power have gone down in flames.

I won't vote in the D primary because I don't want to receive mail and phone calls from liberal candidates for the next 5 years. We've all got our reasons.

That said, I thought a citizen's vote was their right to do with whatever the hell they wanted. Asshats and douchebags tell citizens what to do with their vote.
