Vonn and White... over the top

Today, Lindsey Vonn skied to a Gold on a sore shin bruise... shifting weight to the "wrong" ski to get through some of the turns. Stayed very verrrry low, lower than I thought possible going that fast on what amounted to an icy bumpy road than a snow-packed ski run. She had all the pressure in the world on her, a not-so-terribly-fast-healing injury and still managed to get down the hill faster than the others, some of whom spilled in a fashion that left you wondering how they even survived and could get up.

Kudos, Lindsey!!

Now for Mr. White. Tell me what already-made-a-winner participant with a final run left, in any sport, would lay it out there and go for broke!.. including his signature whatever-the-hell=that-was McTrick, when he didn't even have top speed going into it!!!

Vonn and White manned up... er, girled up and manned up... and did their sport proud. I sort of wished Lindsey would have completely lost it on the medal stand. If not for her championship run on a bad leg when going fast was an effective way to land on your head than on your feet in today's conditions, maybe not bawling her head off during the National Anthem was her best effort of the day. On the final two touching refrains of Old Glory's song, I thought sure she was going to break. Never saw a smile so true and strong as she put on her face, to fight back the emotions and the tears...

Here, Here!!! Congrats to you all!!

Those were great Olympic moments, and why I watch the Olympics. These people do train for four years, have bad injuries, and risk even death, as we saw a few days ago, to compete in their sport. I don't watch many of these sports except in the Olympics, but I enjoy them there, despite the over-the-top hoakiness sometimes.

They are good stories, but I'd wish they would show more actual events instead of rehashing old stories.

I like the feel-good stories, because I like to be reminded that these modern-day Olympics gods and goddesses are, in actuality, real people just like you and me. I think the backstories are interesting and give a different face to the competitor.

I personally think NBC is doing a good job of balancing the actual events with backstories. It's not easy to produce the television coverage for any Olympiad, and especially the Winter games when the weather has shown such capriciousness. Overall, I give NBC pretty good marks for their efforts.

Best single night of Olympics for USA that I can recall. Just unreal stuff. Now, if only our Curling teams could pick up some slack.
