Didn't see this posted anywhere else so I thought I would let you know that the Longhorn volleyball team is one of seven teams participating in the Texas State spring tourney this Saturday at Strahan Colleseum. Games start at 9. Sorry I don't have exact times of when the Longhorns play. Other teams will of course be Texas State the host along with Lamar, West Texas A&M, St. Edwards, Houston and Incarnate Word. Certainly not as intense as the regular season but could be interesting, especially if there is a NCAA first round repeat Texas State/Texas match.

Should be interesting who gets to play since Hooker, Paolini, and Faucette are in China with the Nat'l team. Are any of the '08 incoming freshmen on campus this Spring?

Off topic....
Who is Texas recruiting for '09? I'm noticing a lot of girls committing already.

www.Texassports.com
states that " signing two recruits to National Letters of Intent to attend The University of Texas. Sydney Yogi, a 5-3 libero from Honolulu, Hawaii and Michelle Kocher, a 5-10 setter from Wheaton, Ill., will enroll at UT in the fall of 2008."

With the Lauren, Destinee & Juliann playing for U.S. Women's National Training team this event should help provide more depth.

There's one more recruit 6'2" MB Rachel Adams that has committed for 2008. She should sign in the upcoming period in April. Adams is the #3 recruit of the class.

They won this event going undefeated. Of the nine announced teams only 5 were there - Texas, Texas State, Houston, Lamar and St. Edwards.

We beat all four teams in two games (games were played to 25). The most competitive match was against Texas State. They had most everyone back playing spring ball that played during their NCAA appearance in Austin. Texas State led most of the way during both games but Texas came back to win both. They demolished Lamar, Houston and St Edwards in all the game 1's. Lamar actually made a really good game of it in Game 2 holding a very late lead, but Texas clamped down and won.

Ashley handled setting duties and Heather played libero. Chelsey and Kiley were our OHs. Alex Lewis played DS and Jen Doris and Elizabeth Graham rotated back n forth playing both middle blocker positions and right side on the front line.

How did Jen Doris look? She has so much potential I can hardly wait to see her as a sophomore. I hope her off season training follows what Paolini did last year!

Jen has definitely come along way from last fall as has Elizabeth. I thought Jen's arm speed was faster and she was hitting with more power. Both girls looked good hitting in front of the setter on the quick sets. I thought the slides were too slow and not as effective. Of course, no one runs the slide like Tea and that is where my standard is set.
