Volcano Park Hawaii

Anybody stayed at an inn or cottage near Volcano Park on the Big Island?

I'm thinking of a Hawaii trip with the family and would be interested in a few days at a mega resort and a few days in small inn's or rental cottages. I'm not really interested in anything ultra exclusive or way off the beaten track. Just good solid places for a family trip to balance out the mega resort experience with something more local. Initial research looks like there would be some good choices, but I figure some of the well-traveled on this board would have a recommendation. Other Hawaii tips or advice would be appreciated also.

I am going there next week. I looked up tripadvisor for accommodation advice. This place came highly recommended

Other options would be staying in Hilo I guess, I saw some good rates on kayak.com

I'd be interested to hear any tips or advice when you get back.

I saw that place in the link in the Fodors guide, but it doesn't look like they want kids there. But that kind of place, except kid friendly, is what I am hoping to find.

Thanks

I am pretty sure we stayed there or something just like it in volcano village (6-7 years ago)

I really only remember how cool walking around the park was, though and not anything specfically good or bad about the lodging outside of the cottages themselves being pretty neat.
