Vitale says Texas in the South

Dick Vitale on Mike and Mike says Texas will be the final four rep out of the south. Picks UCLA over Texas in the semis and then takes UNC over UCLA for the championship. Can't believe it. Vitale actually likes the Horns in the south.

Hubert Davis picked Kansas over Carolina, Texas over UCLA ... and Kansas over Texas in the final.

Vitale's late season rankings were the nail in the coffin as far as his candidacy as a college basketball expert. I'd guess that the majority of posters on this board are more familiar with teams around the country than Vitale is at this point in his life.

Vitale is in the same category with Keith Jackson and Ron Franklin as far as being allowed to be terrible for as long as they want to be.

Jackson and Franklin were great in their prime, but their prime was a long time ago. I've never been a fan of Vitale because I hate his voice and his antics, and he is possibly the most biased analyst I've ever heard. But ESPN has given him a free pass on the ACC homerism just like ABC gave Jackson on with the Pac-10. Then, when Jackson decided he needed to do the 100th Texas/OU game, he completely butchered it because he knew zilch about either team. Vitale is the same way.

Ron Franklin is NOT a has been. From Raycom to today, he is still one of the best talents and voices in football. He is solid at basketball, but his true talent lies with football.

Ron Franklin has occassional lapses, but I think he's still one of the best play-by-play voices in college sports. He's nowhere near Keith Jackson's horrid performance in the 2006 Rose Bowl. I wish ESPN would let Franklin call football games again.

Heck, Franklin used to call games with Mike Patrick, and now Patrick, still with ESPN, goes off on "What is Britney doing with her life" tangents in the middle a game.

Ron Franklin is so top notch it's not even funny. He is neighbors with a buddy of mine and when we hosted an engagement party for him I got to meet old Ronny F. He's about as cool a dude as you are ever going to meet and he bitched the whole time that he caught the least amount of fish with my buddy on some trip.

Ron Franklin has more than occasional lapses. He seems like a decent guy (very non-douchebag, like Vitale), but he forgets players' names all the time (I'm convinced he's the one who started the whole "Damion Jones" phenomenon), and he frequently can't tell the difference between a 15-footer and a three-pointer. I will give him props, however, for being one of the only media guys who can properly say "Alexis Wangmene." To the rest of the commentators and analysts in the world, I ask how freaking hard is it to read a pronunciation key in a media guide that is provided to you free of charge? That is part of your job.

But back to Franklin, I have nothing against the man personally, since I don't know him personally. But as a broadcaster, his better days are behind him.

Back to the thread subject, Vitale has always been such an ACC and ND supporter that this particular projection was quite surprising to me. I wonder what changed his mind. You know, he had the Horns rated at #12 just a few days ago.
