Visiting Ann Arbor for Michigan-ND

Looks like I might be doing a trip up to Ann Arbor for the Michigan/Notre Dame game. Every year my buddy and I try to do one weekend trip to a far-off cfb destination. I figure with the events of week 1, these tickets might be cheaper.

Anybody been before? Give me the rundown. Here is my tentative plan:

1. Stay Friday night near Detroit DTW Airport (arriving late Friday)
2. Get up early and drive into Ann Arbor as early as possible (~9am)
3. Get a flavor of the campus either joining some tailgaters or hitting local watering holes pre-game. Also interested in any unique pregame Michigan traditions.
4. Post-game, find a place to hunker down, eat, and watch USC-Nebraska.

I'll post this later on a UM board, but I figured I'd try here first.

Don't waste your Friday night by the airport, head straight into town. Its only about 30 minutes from the airport to Ann Arbor.

We're not getting in until midnight Friday. I figure by the time we get the rental car and drive into Ann Arbor it will be 1am. When's last call?

Go to the M Zone blog, and scroll down to their posts from last week. They have a topic discussing pre-game and information for visitors to Michigan games.

They have a post right now at the top of their page that I don't want to open at work, or else I would give you a link to their blog. Just go to google...type in "M Zone" will be the first thing that pops up.

Going straight from the airport to Ann Arbor will keep you from fighting major traffic the following morning.

Torn, I was in Ann Arbor (yes, she is a *****, I gave her the shocker) last February for work.

I was there with a co-worker who went to UM. I'll email you what we did but we had a good time. The places I recommend will likely be for after the game b/c the stadium is on the far end of campus. Their bars are pretty far from the stadium and definitely not a walk.

Went there last season for the Wisc. game. Had a buddy getting his MBA and the business school had a huge tailgate with a bus in a parking lot at the end of a huge field where the band practices. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it was a good time. I don't remember any of the bars we hit up after the game!
