Virus Software

I use Norton and I hate it. The anti-virus package wouldn't let me send mail (on a SSL server), so I had to disable e-mail scanning. And yet, about half the time I check my e-mail (outlook) the Norton common process hogs 100% of my CPU time and I have to manually kill the process and reboot my machine to start up the firewall/antivirus package again.

Very dissatisfied with Norton.

I found Norton to be a pain too. McAfee is more then $10 cheaper, so that's why I'm inquiring. Thanks for the link; I'll look into it.

Avast. Many posters here use it. Don't be paying for anything when you don't have to.

But if you'd feel more comfortable with a purchased product, try YChang's suggestion or Nod32, which is supposed to be awesome.

My Norton Internet Security runs out this month as well and I was thinking about the free, less memory-hogging route, so let me know which one you go with and how it performs.

norton is bloated as hell. i use the corporate edition UT hands out and even that's bloated.

i have to turn it off when i am playing good fps'.

I ran Avast last night and so far so good. It got rid of all the crap McAfee's free scan detected and then some, plus it doesn't seem like it's affecting my performance in a negative way.

Avast is fantastic. It just picked out a trojan horse from a file online. Not that I was going to open that suspicious-*** file any way, but pretty good for freeware.

I am surprised that Nick didn't takes this opportunity to bring you thoughts on secruity from this little guy:
