What does everyone in Austin think about this new super giant entertainment complex going into east Austin. It supposed to have a 70K seated amphitheater which Austin definately needs to draw the top concerts. Also will house lots of recording studios, sound stages, video game production areas and more. Here is a link to check it out if you haven't heard of it.

how have I never heard of this?

This is a rather bold project. Wish it was a bit closer to town, but 15 miles ain't bad.

If this gets pulled off it could be really f'in cool. I especially like the music venue.

City Council didn't approve it. The developers are now saying that they are going to take their $2BB project elsewhere.

Way to drop the ball City Council.

The City Council is debating whether they will agree not to annex the venue until they reach certain revenue levels. The idea actually has support. I think only one councilmember is against it, and one other (Kim) has concerns about the specifics.

I think Villa Muses' claims for employment, etc. are absurd, but they will no doubt expand our tax base. They're funding it with private money -- I think it should proceed.

One of the fundraisers approached me last year and asked me to look at some of the technical specs for their recording studios and film stages & editing suites. It was all well beyond anything I have experience with, so I had a guy who manages a large Hollywood facility review it, and he thought some of their facility ideas were off the mark. (Too many editing suites, not enough soundstage, etc.) I don't know where they stand now.
