I used to think Edward Everitt Horton was the coolest actor, but I have switched to Victor McLaglen after seeing his academy award winning performanace in John Ford's "The Informer". Wow, the guy is great. Not to mention having been Provost Marshall of the City of Baghdad, boxed heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson in a heavyweight fight, and was the son of the Bishop of Claremont.

He was also excellent in Rio Grande and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon. My pesonal favorie is Gunga Din.

You're under arrest, Quincannon.
By whose orders?
By order of Capt. Brittles. Are you coming peaceably?
Laddie, I've never gone any place peaceably in me life.

Edward Everett Horton?? I thought he was in movies only because Hollywood found it hard to come up with an actor plausibly uglier than Fred Astaire. Don't get me wrong, we both like Fred and Ginger and have all their DVD's. The other highlight of Horton's career was doing one or more of the voices in Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons.

Provost Marshal has only one "L."

He was dying at the time the Quiet Man was made so they used stunt doubles for most of the fight scene and just used him for close ups with he and Wayne.
Victor McLaglen is my favorite charactor actor of all time.

Sorry I read another bio that said he was dying at the time the movie was made.
"In spite of being a powerful hulk his whole life (his huge shoulders making even John Wayne's look small), he was sixty-four and in declining health by the time he was in The Quiet Man (1952). Even prickly John Ford had to be sensitive to McLaglen's condition while shooting that movie's grueling fight sequence"

I bet he would have been one of the best story tellers of all time. Being a carnival boxer taking on all comers, including at one time an entire football team, boxing six rounds against Jack Johnson in Johnson's first defense of his heavyweight crown, fighting in WWI in the Mideast, the early days of movies, stories of John Ford and John Wayne, and many other things.

In fact, I would be more willing to pay a full movie ticket price and sit for several hours listening to a really good story teller than watch most of the crap that is out there either in movies or on tv.
