Incredible. I had the (tied with Pappas) best steak I've ever eaten last night. Bone-in Ribeye. Holy **** it was good. We also had the Au Gratin potatoes and they were incredible as well, only a slight notch below Pappas. I'll have to go back several times to make sure it is consistently great, but I have a new steak house in Houston for now.

Pappas has been a little subpar the last few times I've been and the service hasn't been anything spectacular either. Brenner's is close by and really good as well, but their sides are not nearly as good as Pappas and V&As. I love me some Au Gratin potatoes.
 
To keep this related to Austin, everyone in Austin should hope that a Vic & Anthony's opens there. AL&C (offered a couple of side sauces for the steak last time I was there, wtf?), Jeffrey's, Eddy V's, Sullivan's, don't hold a candle to V&A's for steaks or those Au Gratin potatoes. I'd be interested in hearing suggestions for good steakhouses in Austin though.

Also, when I scanned the first page of quacks and OTRA, I didn't notice any threads about Houston cuisine. Obviously there are a couple on the front page now on OTRA, so moderators feel free to move this thread.

Crayon that makes me happy as hell. Bobs is only slightly behind Al B's & Nick and Sams in my book. And is better than just about anywhere else. Throw in Perrys and you have my top 4.

S&W was way below average when I went there. I dont plan on a return trip.
 
Perry's annoys me. I think Al Beirnat's is easily my favorite, but I'd put nick and Sams and Bobs in the same ballpark. I think of Bob's as a great dinner meeting place and a good date place and N & S as the opposite. In terms of food, its really open to debate. I think 60% of people would tell you Bob's is better.

Damnit.... I need a steak now.
 
S&W would win in the "most obnoxious and overpriced steak place", but probably not on taste.

I've been to a Morton's in 3 different cities and I've never been that impressed. why is that?
 
I gotta go with Strip House as my favorite in Houston.

S&W best anywhere? I am going to have to repectfully disagree. They are probably not in the top 6 or 7 in Houston much less top 10 in the country.

I just got pissed when I realized you weren't talking about an Al Biernat's opening here.

Bob's is not even markedly better than Biernat's NOWDAYS. used to be in a different league, but it's slipped.

Still would go to bob's alot when it comes to Austin.
