vibram five fingers

I've got flat feet. I've read that they're supposed to help strengthen your feet and lower body. Do they help that much? Where did you get yours and how much did you pay?

If you're going to use these, don't just throw away your running shoes and start running. Use them as a part of your overall running/training otherwise you can end up with various foot problems. The people who use them all the time (Barefoot Ted for example) have been using them for a very long time and their feet have grown accustomed to running in them. Your feet are accustomed to running in shoes, so you must ease into these (or running straight-up barefoot).

I got mine online somewhere I don't remember. They were maybe 10 bucks cheaper than Whole Earth. I have had so many issues go on with my feet and legs that I honestly have no idea if they did anything good OR bad for me (I know what has finally solved my agony, but that's a completelyu different story). I just like them. I do not run.

My physician cousin wears hers because of chronic back pain (surgery didn't fix things) and now hip pain. She played tennis for UT, but hasn't been able to play for years. The five fingers have not changed that.

I just ordered Chris Mcdougall's book Born to Run and have been reading some about these shoes and the whole barefoot running idea. I've been running for a long time and can't wait to try this out. Our feet have evolved to walk and run naturally, so I think we may be on to something really good here.

The reviews on his book have been fantastic.

Question for NickDanger: what's your experience been like with the shoes? Was there much adjustment to your style when you made the switch? I would appreciate any info or suggestions you have. Thanks.

Love them too; they feel so good on my feet, although they do take a little getting used to. Highly recommended.

Like I said, I do not run so I can't help with that issue. I was a completely barefoot kind of guy. NEVER wore shoes if I could avoid it. The callouses on my feet were, frankly, groos.

I then spent 2 months in intensive care and came out and had to pretty much start from the beginning as far as walking. I didn't have to relearn, but I had NO strength. Just LOTS of pain and restlessness. I couldn't even go barefoot in my home. The vibrams allowed me to do that. They aren't perfect for traipsing around in thorns, but gravel was a holy hell that I couldn't face without them. I have since been diagnosed with and successfully treated for Restless Leg Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. The foot and leg pain has disappeared so I don't HAVE to wear the vibrams any more, but I do because I like the way they feel and because the people in my social circle think they are weird.

It's not much, but it's all I can offer on the subject.
