Vegas for Spring Break

Spring break this year is the week of Mar 10-14 and we'd like to take a trip out to Vegas. I was thinking we would get a good deal because we could go during the week as opposed to the weekend, but now that I'm checking hotel rates, they're all mega-high. Is this just a result of it being spring break, or is there something else I should know about? I have a hard time believing it's only spring break because the following week the rates are 50% cheaper, and I think that's when some other schools have their spring break.

Does anyone have suggestions of how to get a better hotel deal? We'd like to stay on the strip and we're leaning TI because it's good for the money, but we're open to other places.

Yeah I thought about that, and as much as I'd like to be there during MM, we figured it'd be a lot cheaper to go early in the week. For some reason the rates are still jacked up during the Sunday - Wednesday stretch.

March Madness isn't until the next week, and although it is crowded with a lot of dudes it's a lot of fun being there.

Where are you wanting to stay? Do you plan to gamble enough to get comps? Do you really care where you stay?

Vegas isn't as cheap as it used to be either, which sucks.

Well the last time I went we stayed at Treasure Island, which is pretty cheap for a large hotel/casino on the strip. I don't really have a preference of where we stay this time, but I think it would be best to stay on the strip to avoid spending a lot in cab fares. Looking at rates so far, TI is about the cheapest strip hotel, even less than Harrah's or The Flamingo.

Yes we plan to gamble, although probably not enough to get comps. I played a lot of table games last time and it seems the comps are better when you put a lot into the machines. Maybe I just didn't do it right.

i'm looking at going in april with some friends, and initially we were thinking march and I did a little checking and saw the rates were sky high. I figured spring break + basketball + maybe some big conventions and BOOM, prices sky high.

A couple other people that would be going are limited to the March 08-16 time frame, and there are no cheap nights in that range. Even the week following is much cheaper, despite the fact that March Madness is going on. There must be some conventions or something because I'm noticing that a lot of hotels are completely booked on Tues, March 11, and I can't think of anything special about that day.

I've considered Priceline, and it seems you can specify the minimum star rating and the area, either South Strip or Central Strip. I might give it a try, I'm just a little concerned because Vegas hotels don't match up to the typical hotel star ratings.

Isn't that the week of the big stock car race? Seems it was around that same time when we were there for the UNLV baseball series a couple of years ago

WT,
That is week of CONEXPO- CON/AGG Constustion convention (3/11-3/15) 135,000 attendees in about 125,000 hotel rooms in town.
LasVegasAdvisor This is going to be an expensive week to come out. NASCAR is March 2 this year, so that is a non-factor.

Depending on how much played last time you stayed a TI you might be able to get "Casino Rate" from casino marketing. Also if your going with others who have played at TI before. Just call them directly and they'll let you know, pm me i'll give you the number.
