Vegas for beginners......

I don't need any insight on how to get wild and cause trouble in Vegas. I know how to accomplish that. My problem is how to not scare the hell out of my cousin and aunt (both my own age) when they meet me there for the 2nd half of my 8 day trip in May. Both are pretty low key and will not quite be up for hitting all the bars every night. We're doing the bar run one night but I think that will be sufficient for them.

So, what are some things to do in Vegas that don't involve getting drunk and dancing until 6 am? Daytime activities?

We're staying at Caesar's so, I've got the Forum Shops and Bellagio mall already on the list. I've also got a cabana reserved for a pool day.

i would recommend Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. it was a lot of fun, actually.

also, they could take a craps lesson one morning, then find a lower $$ craps game later that afternoon or night.

if they want a nice (but pricey) meal with a view, you could go to MIX as well (also at THEhotel at mandalay bay). the view is great and beginners to vegas would really like it, imho. it gives you a feel for the whole strip.

bellagio fountains, obviously

hang out in the venetian

if you're really looking to spend a whole day doing something and you have a car, i would recommend heading out to lake las vegas or the hoover dam. lake las vegas is beautiful, there are a small number of shops, a mellow and small casino, and a Ritz.

you could do some kind of spa activity too.

or you could gamble, since it is vegas after all.

Go see a classic Vegas show like Jubilee at Bally's or the Follies at the Tropicana (There are coupons around for both).

Take a drive around Red Rock Canyon.

Visit the Liberace Museum.

Go to the top of the Stratosphere.

If they like malls, go to the Fashion Show Mall.

Go see Mystere at the TI.

Grab a shopping basket and hit the liquor stores with Nic Cage!

If you run into Elisabeth Shue, you have to promise to call me, though!

I almost forgot, there is a huge tourist/crap shop at the corner of Sahara and Las Vegas Blvd. All the cheesy tourist junk ever made for Vegas is concentrated there.

But there is a big liquor store in the same strip center.

Ha - no. My cousin is 9 months younger than me (dad's niece) and my grandmother found out she was pregnant with my dad's youngest sister when I was 9 months old.

I don't think there is any way my wallet or my liver could survive 8 straight days in Vegas.

I'm doing 3 days in May which is one more night than I like as two nights always has me feeling like death on the flight home.

Good luck!

We're goin' next month - 3 comped nights at Paris, then in July - 4 comped nights at Bally's.

I don't drink or gamble except in moderation, don't go to strip clubs or ***** around (go with my wife). Usually in bed by midnight and up by 7am.

However, in my party heyday 40 years ago, they would have banned me from that town. Such is domestication.

I am taking notes also. Have a trip with my sister and friends to celebrate our respective decades. We have 3 nights at the Bellagio, going mid week in June. My first time there.

If you play in any of the bigtime Vegas poker salons, be sure and have your face injected with substantial doses of novacaine.

I highly recommend slipping the hotel registration desk a twenty when you check in. Got an upgraded room w/ a strip view @ Mandalay--money well spent.

There are TONS of good shows and restaurants. If you're worried about price check out a 1/2 price ticket booth the day you want to see a show. (BTW There should be a coupon in one of those free coupon mags you see everywhere for 1/2 price tickets). You could maybe go see an expensive show one night ala a Cirque show, and then a cheaper one the next like a comedian. I prefer Carrot Top, but there are others such as George Wallace who is reasonably priced.

Also make sure y'all walk through all the hotels. This is a good way to kill time, especially for someone whos never been to Vegas. If they drink, just grab a drink in every hotel. By the time you make it to the Wynn y'all will be having a great time and have wasted the entire day.

Finally there are plenty of free shows to check out as well. I've heard that Fat Elvis at Barbary Coast (Bill's gambling saloon or whatever it's called now) is a good show. And one time I stumbled upon a Prince cover band that I thought was awesome, mostly because I was hammered and though it actually was Prince.

Since it sounds like y'all aren't on that tight of a budget I might suggest Brunch at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. I've also heard good things about the Peppermill or Hashhouseagogo, but have never eaten at either myself. I personally prefer the Dennys by Casino Royal for some good soberup food. I've also had a decent breakfast at the Studio Cafe at MGM, but I had a horrible breakfast at the cafe at CP as well as Cp's buffet, so I would avoid those.
