Vegas as a Couple

Any of you all been to Vegas with your spouse? My wife and I are thinking about going in August, and each of us has only been there with groups of friends, bachelor parties and the like. We are thinking dinners, pool, show etc, but we are skeptical of actually enjoying the shows. We're both in our early 30s and wanting to go to Vegas without doing the whole nightclub scene, and instead just have a more relaxing time as a couples getaway. Any advice? Not so much on restaurants (as the other post on this board covers that), but more along the lines of whether it was fun as a couple, what other things to do, etc.

My wife and I enjoyed Love last year(we are 30 and 29) and I don't really even care for the Beatles. The action will blow you away I promise. Sit half way up so you can see everything that happens.

Any of the Cirque du Soleil shows are pretty good.

O, LaReve, Mystere all favs of mine.

Do a spa thing together.... Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian is pretty good as is the Spa at Mandalay Bay...

I really like the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay.

Drinks at Mixx at THE Hotel is pretty good. you can sit outside on a balcony 60 stories up with a great view down the Strip.

whether or not you have fun as a couple depends on the couple

My wife and I love going to vegas together.

"but we are skeptical of actually enjoying the shows"

why?

if you want a more relaxed atmosphere consider staying at the Green Valley Ranch

Doesn't really matter what you're into - you can probably have a good time doing it in Vegas.

If you don't think you'll like a show, don't go. But there are a bunch of good/great shows available. Spamalot at the Wynn is great if you're even a casual fan.

What do you like to do?

My wife and I have gone several times together and we always have a blast. She doesn't really enjoy the gambling part, but she loves the restaurants, the shows and just seeing all the different things that the hotels do (like the garden exhibit at Bellagio, e.g.). She also loves the shopping, which I do not like, so while she's shopping, I'll gamble, and then we'll compare notes to see who lost the most money. She usually beats me on that.

There is a ton of stuff to do there. I can't imagine you'll be bored. Go hang out by the Hard Rock Hotel pool and I guarantee that you'll not be bored.

Blue Man Group was durn good - at the Venetian.

Ka at the MGM Grande was a different kind of Cirque show, if you've seen their usual circus format.

Old school Vegas "topless revue" shows are the Follies at the Tropicana and Jubilee at Bally's.

My fiance and I go to Vegas quite a bit. While we enjoy gambling, we have to take breaks sometimes, and always enjoy going to a show. We went to David Copperfield magic show last time and really enjoyed that. You can definitely make a great evening out of a nice restaurant and a show, whether it's magic or Cirque. I've also been to the Danny Gans comedy show- I expected it to be lame but it was actually decent. I think people slightly older than we are (I'm 26) identify more with his humor, but it's fun for anyone- he does tons of great impressions of people. It's going to be hot as hell so hit up the pool around 10 am before the bad heat/crowds get there. Then go walk in and out of some of the big hotels- Bellagio, Wynn, Ceasars, just to look at stuff and see what's going on. Go have brunch/lunch and martinis at Olives at the Bellagio. You cannot possibly run out of things to do.

see the vegas eats thread on here.

also, if you will be there on any weekdays, call up the tao beach club and rent a cabana. weekdays will run you under $300. weekends run $2000.

trust me. if you can get the weekday deal, do it. you won't ever want to lounge at the pool the "regular way" ever. your wife will think you are the best person on earth not named vince young.

Just got back from Vegas...

LeReve... a good show in a "theater in the round" setting... not a bad seat in the house.

Elton John.. .although 50 pounds and 20 years past his prime... a GREAT show! Highly recommend it!
