VB: #3 National seed

Volleyball was slotted #3 in the NCAA D1 tournament. First round action at Gregory on Friday pits Rice (27-3) against AVCA #9 (as of 11/24) Wichita State (29-1) at 4:30 pm, followed byTexas (25-3) versus Lamar (17-11) at (roughly) 6:30 pm. Despite their 29-0 mark and #9 ranking as of last week, WSU was not given a top-16 seed in the tourney.

The two winners square off Saturday at 4:30 pm.

If all top seeds advance, the regional at Gregory the following weekend will feature the 3, 6, 11, and 14 seeds: Texas, Minnesota, Oregon, and UCLA.

Wow, Wichita State went undefeated in the regular season, then lost in their first conference tournament game to a team they'd swept the previous week.

They played several Big 10 teams early, but I think the only non-conference game they played against a tournament team was Lamar.

Top seeds:

2. Stanford
3. Texas
4. Nebraska

If seeding holds, we'd get UCLA in the third round and the Minnesota-Oregon winner in the regional finals.
