University of Texas guard Varez Ward and forward Shawn Williams each have been granted a medical hardship waiver from the Big 12 Conference for the 2009-10 season, the school announced Thursday. Ward will be a redshirt sophomore for the upcoming 2010-11 season, while Williams will be a redshirt freshman.

That's strange, Puddle/Cruiser. Why would a player who played in only 7 of the team's 31 games of regular season play, who was injured in December with 23 games left on the schedule, who never appeared in any game after the December injury, and who underwent surgery in January be considered only a 50-50 chance for another year of eligibility?

BTW, slightly "old news," but Willliams should be cleared to play before summer is out. Balbay and Ward expected to be cleared in September. Barnes is pleased Joseph and Thompson are around all summer compared to last summer having Bradley and Hamilton only around for the second session and Brown not at all.

Owens played 11 games, and the rule back then required the player compete in no more than 20% of the team's games.
