I'm planning a trip to the Vancouver area and was wondering if the ferry ride over to Victoria Island is a rough one. I do well in the bay, but I get sea sick on the rough waters. Thanks!
It shouldn't be too bad. I've done that run 3-4 times but they were all during the summer. Pretty smooth then when we had good weather. Keep in mind that the ferries are pretty big so you wont get a huge amount of swell and the channel isn't too rough in general. But if you happen to be going during a storm it can be a little rough.
The BC ferries making that run are huge. You won't notice it.
The ride over is a lot calmer than the ride from Port Angeles to Victoria. I damn near got blown over the side of the MV Coho into the Straits of Juan De Fuca at night when trying to take a picture of the wheelhouse from the bow.
It was a rough ride. She wallows like a pig in rough seas.
Depends on the wind level. My future daughter-in-law got seasick on that ferry the week before Christmas. She is from Vancouver, has made the trip many times, and never gotten sick before. The winds were blowing at about 40 mph, according to my son. If it gets that rough, postpone for a day.
