Valve cover gasket on Xterra

Should I try doing this myself? If I don't, anybody have any idea how much it will cost?

I was pretty good around carbs and electrical parts back in the day, but it's been a while...

Why not take & post a photo of that valve cover side of the engine... that will tell us what you have in the way / in need of working around.

Plus, you'll have a guide as to where your stuff should go once you want to reassemble it.

& By all means, if you decide to do it yourself, do NOT go cheap on the gasket you select.
