May be a crazy question, but my kid(7 year old girl) wants to make mom a big candy heart for mom for Valentine's Day. Came up in a silly kid's book she is reading.
Never amde candy before and I cannot find any recipe for this at all.
You might try this. It's not exactly the same as the candy conversation hearts, but it will still allow you to make a big heart, and carve the message into the top. In addition, you can tint it whatever color you choose. I'd also suggest rolling it out to a 1/2 to 3/4 inch thickness and then cutting with a heart shaped cookie cutter (Wilton's has a good one, that you can purchase at Michael's), and then drying for at least a couple of days. You could even try drying it, like jerky, in the oven set on 150 degrees/warm. Oh hell, just let me make it for you guys!
Peppermint Creams
Confectioners' sugar, egg white and peppermint extract kneaded into shapes and allowed to set up overnight."
INGREDIENTS:
1 egg white
3 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
DIRECTIONS:
1. In large bowl, whisk egg white until frothy, but not stiff. Stir in confectioners' sugar and peppermint extract. You may need to knead it with your hands. If you wish to add food coloring, knead it in, and keep kneading until the color is evenly distributed.
2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Form the dough into small balls, place on cookie sheet and flatten slightly. Cover and let sit overnight in a cool, dry place, until set.
