Headed there next week. Staying at Cascade. Taking the wife for anniversary. Plan to ski down to Lion's Head, hit the spa and have some great meals. I have been once before, but only for a weekend. Tips?

Wife has never skied. I have once (Vail).

Thanks.

No real tips from me, but if you see a huge lighting store (lamps, etc), stop in and say hi to my aunt. She's cool.

I've been in Beaver Creek/Vail the past week, and it has been pretty tame, since the snowfall hasn't been that great. At Beaver Creek, they have two runs open, and at Vail they have three-five. The only good thing about it is that the resorts are pretty dead. It looks like we're going to get a foot of snow between today and tomorrow night, which hopefully will aid to them opening up more runs next week. One thing that is cool though, is that we've been able to watch the World Cup downhill ski event, which has been fun.

Good to hear about the foot coming soon. Hopefully one more storm before Thu/Fri next week.

Vail has 7 lifts and 8 runs open, 6" in the past 2 days, BC w/ 2 lifts/2 runs and 10" in 2 days. (most of it blown away according to my friend in Eagle)

Gore Valley could get 4-7" tonight according to NWS, another prediction I read said up to 20" over the weekend.

I typically use one of these two sites to check the snowfall at resorts in Colorado.

Colorado Ski or
Ski Report

I will also second the recommendation of taking a lesson. I took up snowboarding last year after moving up here. The first day I went out I took a full day lesson and it helped me immensely. The biggest thing I think it helps with is it keeps you from starting out with bad habits that can hurt you when you try to progress into more difficult terrain.

I haven't been to Vail yet, so can't comment much on that area; but I've heard that it is a very nice area. Hope you have lots of fun.

Is Sweet Basil italian? I have been to a great italian place in VV before, but forget the name.

Vail is supposedly opening up 14 lifts and 550 acres of terrain tomorrow, looks like no additional terrain opening up at the Beav.

I had lunch at Sweet Basil yesterday, it was pretty good, it was 9.95 lunch specials. One thing that I noticed at Vail this past week, was that almost every place to eat was running a 50% off dinner entrees special with the purchase of a bottle of wine or an appetizer.

Trying out the Grouse Mountain Grill at Beaver Creek tonight...

lucky, you.

Just got back. It dumped 20" from the time my plane landed until Saturday. It was great. Not all the runs were groomed, but still a lot of great snow.

Ate at Sweet Basil. Excellent suggestion, thank you. Also drank/ate at Tap Room, Billy's in Lion's Head (stumbled on it. wasn't bad). Chop House at the Cascade was just ok. Next time, we're going to try La Tour and a few of the other suggestions.

The Cascade was beautiful. The spa was great. Got a Sports Massage. After two days of skiing while out of shape, it hit the spot.

Oh yeah, a lots of hot eastern Europeans.

didn't get back there. spent most of my time between Mid Vail and Eagle's Nest.

Man it was beautiful.
