So with football season over, I decided to go ahead and get working on an advanced degree. One thing I needed to do was submit a transcript from UT Austin.
So I went to the utexas.edu website today to request it. You can do it all online now vs last time when I called someone. Talking? How primitive.
However in order to do the online stuff, I needed to access my UT EID. I hadn't done this since I graduated in 1997. This meant I'm old enough that I couldn't recover a password by any automated means, so I had to resort to *gasp* call someone. I spoke to a supervisor who asked me 20 questions to confirm my identity, and got a temporary password. Upon successfully logging in, I was greeted with a message, "Your last successful login was @1:10PM on 06/05/1997."
This put a smile on my face as I imagined the 23 year old version of me in Austin logging out of my account for the last time before I graduated. I read it in glee to the tech support guy I was still talking to. He thought it was an error...I was like, no I'm really that old.
It had my old UT email address on file which was an @mail.utexas.edu account and I asked if it still existed in some way. He said that was an outdated mail system, but that Alumni can get an @utexas.edu email address. This is the main reason I'm posting is to share this information.
I got myself a shiny new @utexas.edu email address today! Google administrates it, so it's exactly the same as Gmail, but with the @utexas.edu address. Plus it's only for UT students and alumni so not every username in existence is taken already.
Maybe this is old news, but it was new to me, and I wanted to pass it on. Enjoy!
