OK, its time to turn our attention to basketball for a bit. I know that our intense interest is on the Texas OC situation, but hey no news is coming out tonight; so its round ball baby!!

Should be a fairly comfortable win, and another opportunity for the youngsters to get meaningful PT! Go horns!! :hookem2:

Horns three point shooting was out of sight. Maybe the best I've seen from a horn team in years. I think this is due in part of course to the talent on the team but also shaka's culture of "no fear" and allowing his players to play through their mistakes.

This builds courage and confidence. Great for the future of this team.

Horns win 116-50 What a great game for the three freshmen. Maybe a coming out party for Tevin Mack. Congrats Horns!!

I listened on the radio, so I am not sure what it looked like, but it sure sounded great.

While utsa was a cupcake I really liked the hustle and offensive energy showed last night. The kids had their most efficient execution of Shakaball to date. The freshmen looked alot more comfortable and played like it. Will be interesting to see how this carries over to Saturday. :bevo:

Was UTSA really that bad? I only watched the second half after we had basically choked the life out of them. Loved what I saw of Ridley, but he so overmatched them inside that I'm not even sure it was good practice.

The person that I think benefited most was probably Mack - he really needed to be reminded that his shot still falls the same whether he's in a high school gym or a college arena. Here's hoping that takes the lid of the basket for him.

They were "that bad," but it let Texas work on some things they needed to, in actual game action.

They could have pressed the whole game and won by 100 points. UTSA couldn't advance the ball hardly over midcourt in ten seconds.

It showed how "havok" is supposed to work.

It gave the Horns a chance to really feed the ball to Ridley, in the post and let him work on his post moves.

It did the same for Cleare, but he continues to get in foul trouble, when he plays.

Too bad Ibeh was hurt, he really needed to get in some work on his offense, in the post.

Mack got to work on his shooting and hopefully gain some confidence, making some treys.

Finally, it let the walk ons get some recognition and have some fun. It was their showcase most likely, for the season.

That's why I didn't understand the announcers getting on the kid for nailing the trey in the final minute. It was very likely the last time he'll touch a basketball on the Erwin Center court for the rest of the year and maybe his life. No way he doesn't take that shot and no way could anyone blame him.

Yes, I can't see the UTSA coach getting all upset because a walk on player for Texas shoots a three, in the last minute of play.

The walk ons still get to warm up before games and at halftime, on the Erwin Center floor.

I know, I know, but sometimes I just can't help myself. I have been better about keeping myself in check, since becoming a moderator.

Just not all the time, certainly not during baseball season. :smile1:

Agree with all the points NBhorn said above.

Just would add that the freshmen were hitting the jumpers, especially the threes, that they were missing in previous games. They had been having trouble hitting the open J's as well as the ones with a hand in their face, so it was great to see them knocking them down.

I find it amazing and very telling that @car54 (and others, he's definitely not alone) posted multiple times on the game thread when we lost our opener, and not even once on this one.

You are right. I failed to make that observation. But now that you point it out, I think very few (if any) of the doom and gloom, "we have two crappy coaches" (yes there were posts like that during the first Washington game and Michigan game) posted during the UTA victory either.

That is very telling. These guys need to give credit when credit is due. And it seems to me that the players clearly are getting more comfortable with Shaka's system; and that the freshmen are slowly but surely adjusting to the pace of the college game.

I don't think we will beat UNC this Saturday (although it could happen), I do think we will show up and be very competitive. :hookem2:
