The Horn Identity

First of all, great effort by the team last night (at least the 6 that get significant playing time) to beat a really good Kansas team. Each of the 6 made their contributions. And, the truth is we need all of them. DJ and AJ, even with Damion can't do it by themselves. We need the other guys to step up. Without them, we lose to the Aggies and Mizzou. With them, we can play with KU, TN, and UCLA.

That said, Kansas is clearly the better team and team built to make it to the Final Four. It's almost not fair. How many 6-6 to 6-10 athletic guys can one team have? We were just hot enough in the first half and just scrappy enough in the second half to eek out a victory. Man, Self has to be beside him-Self that we outboarded them 24 to 12 in the second half. No excuse for that.

Good news. I think this virtually assures us a #2 or #3 seed (hopefully in Houston) barring a collapse down the stretch. I must admit that I still have my doubts about our prospects in the tourney. We just haven't developed enough bench depth to mount a consistent effort. Don't get me wring, we'll be a team that nobody wants to face in the tourney. We've already proven that we can beat anybody on any given night.

Oh, one other thing, that #24 on their team is a fouling machine. How he didn't foul out, I have no idea.

The Link Here's some interesting observations. What a laugh - some of those excuses. I figured to hear this kind of garbage even after the game last night.

I turned to my dad half way through the first half (when we were playing awesome and lucky to be up 3) and said- how do these guys ever lose, and how do they lose so early in the tourney.

They always seem to play great against us and then they lose to someone they shouldn't in March. In my lifetime of seriously watching college hoops (15 years or so) I'd have thought they could win 5 or 6 titles. Instead their last title is a fliuke from 20 years ago.

Weird

Something I have noticed the last few years is that we seem to play to the level of our competition. When we play the Tenn, UCLA, and Kansases of the world we play team ball, go for viscious rebounds, and leave it all out on the court. When we play the Mizzous, and Iowa states of the world we play selfish, sluggish, and just plain stupid ball. The tourney seems to show this too. Last year Durrant had to keep the points comming to keep us in the game and the same with Aldridge before in the early games.

consistent solid play is what we need and who the hell knows if that is the team that will show up in the tourney.
