Daughter has an internship there in the summer and will probably stay in a dorm there. Can anyone tell me about the area that UT - Brownsville is in? Safe? Near food sources, etc? I'm trying to figure out if she will need a car since her internship is on campus. Thanks.

It's right on the border in downtown Brownsville. I really didn't know there were "dorms". There really isn't a good restaurant in Brownsville since Palm Court burned.

If Rudy's BBQ and Chili's are 2 of top restaurants in town, you get the picture.

I wouldn't want my daughter living on that campus, but I don;t have a better option in Southern Cameron County. Options are South Padre Island, which is 30-35 minute drive with basically no traffic. Ranch Viejo is just north of town and has condos for rent. It's a golf community and safe.

Good luck.

When he says it's right on the border he means, literally, a few hundred feet from the bridge crossing the Rio Grande.

It's in Mexico with potable water.

Literally on the border. I remember pissing in the bushes on campus walking to cross the bridge on Spring Break. Also, check out infamous former UTB student-athlete, Sarah AldreteLa Madrina
