There's always lots of empty seats at the early games of the tournament. The last time I was there I was able to use a bleacher seat and walk around to behind home plate seats. I was at all the championship games in '04 & '05 and I do not recall how I obtained the tickets, so it must not have been difficult. Be thankful that Texas is perhaps the closest to Omaha of all the 8 teams. If it weren't so late I'd confirm that with MapQuest.
UT gets a small number for each game. Not very good seats either. Season ticket holders and Foundation members can call and put their name on the list and those tickets will be doled out for each game in order of team tix, baseball admin, athletic dept admin, fondation donation level, anyone else.
If it is the same as it has always been, you have to give them a cc # and commit to purchasing tickets to every game Texas plays in. If you are high enough on the list to get tix, they are at team will call that morning.
Realistically, your best bet is to scalp. Since scalping is "illegal" and the police actively bust people around the stadium, you can almost always find seats for at or close to face value.
You have to be on the list from the first game on.
I just ordered tix for Sunday. When I pick them up at will call on Sunday morning, they will ask me if I'm in for Tuesday. If I say no, my name drops off for the rest of the series, including the championship series. This scenario will occur for each game. Also, if you don't pick them up, you drop off the list.
Yep. It is because there are so few tickets given to the schools.
The reality is that tickets are usually pretty darn easy to pick up from other fans selling them and/or scalpers. And the price is at or near face value.
Anybody know how long they have been using the ticket scanner system at the gates? There are warnings out now about the risk of buying tickets that are void because they have already been scanned.
Orangeblood is 150 % correct. Very few tix for the participating schools.....aboout 300 for most games.....600 tix if we are in a one game session.
UT designs it's allotment distribution system to honor loyal donors who go to ALL the games....not just "frontrunners " who only want the cherry on top of the Sundae.
Well, I must be one of those loyal donors who will go to all the Texas games . . .
The confirming email said:
"Dr. Mr. Marley (well it didn't quite say "Marley"),
The Longhorn Foundation has received and processed your request for 2009 College World Series tickets. This email is confirmation that you will be receiving the tickets that you ordered for the Sunday June 14th game vs. Southern Mississippi at 6 pm.
Tickets may be picked up at the Texas will call window - at the NCAA Team Ticket windows next to the main ticket office at the front of Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. The will call window will open 2 hours prior to the start of the game. Please be prepared to show an ID and arrive as early as possible to insure timely entry into the stadium.
The Longhorn Foundation staff representative at the will call window will coordinate and confirm your ticket requests for future games in the tournament.
Please contact The Longhorn Foundation at 512-471-4439 if your plans have changed or if you have any questions.
Hook 'em Horns!"
As Orangeblood and sua sponte said, that's how it's worked in the past. No change this year other than there may have been more donors ordering tickets.
I had forgotten that you have to be a baseball season ticket holder to get priority for those tickets. I just presumed that, with all the new football and baseball suite holders, the numbers of very high rollers would have increased to the point where they would have crowded out some of us who have been getting tickets this way for a long time.
Just show up and scalp there. The tickets in the UT block arne't that great and you are going to be surrounded by alot of UT fans regardless of where you sit. Stop worrying about tickets. If this is your 1st time, it's understandable to be concerned but relax, tickets aren't hard to get there.
