UT Band Question

Are there any current/former band members on here? I have a somewhat odd inquiry.

Do/can members of the band do private gigs?

If I wanted a few members of the band to play the eyes of Texas at an event would that be possible?

I was not in the band, but I have seen them perform twice outside of the stadium with the rock duo Ghostland Observatory-- once at their CD release party at Austin Music Hall and once at ACL last October.

The Alumni Band usually does gigs. The money all goes to scholarships for current LHB'ers.

The alumni do play for a variety of gatherings throughout the year, to raise scholly $$ for the LHB kids.

When I was in LHB, I got paid to do a couple private gigs as a rep of the band. It might be hard to get the whole band for anything, but you can contract for an LHB ensemble. Talk to the office about it.

There's no issues with amateur status if that's what you're worried about. They're not competing so it's not an issue.

Of course, no one could compete with the LHB anyway.

Just remember that LHB members are prodigious drinkers (at least we were in the old days), so stock up.

They looked pretty sober at the end of Lady Bird's funeral. Still gives me goose bumps.

Johnny Carson was honored by the Kennedy Center Awards in either 1994 or 1995 after one of Nebraska's National titles. There was a bogus name of who was doing the entertainment for his induction, and then down the four rows of the Kennedy Center three abreast came the UNL band playing "Varsity" and 'No Place Like Nebraska". A huge banner dropped down that said (whatever year) National Champs. The look on Carson's face was one of complete surprise, but not nearly as surprising as watching him chanting "GO BIG RED GO BIG RED GO BIG RED!" at the end of "No Place".

Thank you for all the advice. George Moxley is putting me in touch with the Houston area Alumni Band Rep. I hope something works out.

Oh, and I'm only looking for a couple of members, not the whole band. And if they're prodigous drinkers, they will fit in well with my family and friends!!
