Maybe they see it as getting more fans for the "later" games of the tournament. OU had an open door for getting to Oklahoma City this past year, and blew it. The opening games for the past few years have really s*cked regarding fan attendance.....
...but that just puts more emphasis on your point.
Why can't they seed teams according to location if $ and attendance is a priority??!!
seeding has always been confusing to me. it is interesting that OU wasn't in the Oklahoma City bracket, but OSU is...and we'll see if they even make it through their 1st round game with Riley on the bench.
this bracket has the potential for some interesting re-matches though...
Texas (1) vs. Tennessee (2)
North Carolina (1) vs. OU (2)
Tenn (2) vs. Stanford (3)
A&M (1) vs. Duke (2) -- Elite 8 last year
I wouldn't put much stock in these projected seeds...conference play hasn't even started yet and this guy isn't on the seeding committee. I have a feeling that if we pull his predictions from this time last year to the way that the bracket played out that they would be considerably different.
I'll debate the bracket in March. However, if we win the Big 12 we would certainly be deserving of a number 1 seed.
well i'm sure most of us won't be putting much stock into this poll. just interesting to see how his bracket lines up going into conference play.
definitely agree that if Texas wins the Big 12 we'll get a #1 seed. and i don't think he's too far off in the possibility of having two #1 seeds, and maybe even two #2 seeds from the Big 12. we'll see how it plays out.
probably true about Baylor. it's too bad they were stuck in Oregon and had to cancel their game against Cal. i was really looking forward to that game. i was curious to see how they would do against the other top Pac 10 team on the road. and equally curious to see how Cal would rebound from their meltdown against OU.
I have a feeling the Big 12 South teams are really going to beat up on each other in conference play. I'm betting one really good team in the Big 12 South could end up with a really lousy conference record. But hopefully the RPI's will offset the record/ranking.
TempestHorn, I think you are right. Everyone is going to have a brutal schedule and I think there will be a lot of fluctuation in the rankings due to that fact. The SEC doesn't seem to be nearly as strong this year and I suspect that UCONN will go undefeated in the Big East. The PAC 10 should be a two team race between Cal and Stanford and Duke and NC should fight it out for the ACC title. I think the Big 12 is the only conference that has 3 or 4 teams that have a chance to bring home the conference title.
Fasten your seat belts , it's going to be a bumpy ride.
TXtoCO I totally agree with you. Big 12 and especially the south teams will be brutal and every game will count. These teams will get no off day. Every game will need to be on point in order to win the conference. And the Big 12 tourny will be a straight dog fight.
