Using The Elliptical

I've been "running" on the elliptical recently in hopes of not only increasing cardio, but also, decreasing my 1.5 on the track. I'm not too familiar with all the setting options, but is this feasible for improving actual track time? Or is it best to go out on the track and just run?

my horrible answer is that i would think any type of cardio would help you on the actual track. may also save some of the wear and tear that comes with the impact of actually running.
 
I have used both the track and elliptical at different times for my cardio. Back when I was using the elliptical exclusively, I didn't feel like I was getting as good of a cardio workout as when I was just running. Sure it works your legs and butt alot more, but cardio-wise I didn't feel the same "burn". The only thing I could see an elliptical helping you with on the track would just be beefing up your calves and hammies.
