Using my DirecTV receiver in a different city

In the process fo moving from Austin to Denver. Currently "camping" in my new house while some work is being done on it. Wife/kids move up in a couple of weeks.

The previous owner used DirecTV (non-HD). I was disappointed when I plugged in my HD receiver and it couldn't pick up the satelite signal. Is this b/c the dish is an older dish (i.e., SD) or is an account w/ an Austin address just not going to have one of the two receivers work in Denver?

It is an older dish, if you have the right dish and box (along with that modulator thing) it should work anywhere in the continental US.

I'd also check to see if the Dish is pointing in the right direction. Did the previous owner use DirecTV just before he moved? If not, the dish could need some adjusting.

Also, you could try playing with the settings to see if you are tuning into the transponder with the highest signal strength.
