Using DART for OU Game

Thinking of using DART to get to/from the game...comments???

Don't. It's a nightmare after the game. Much, much faster to drive your own car and pay to park on somebody's lawn.

Just my $.02, avoid DART. I live in Dallas, I've taken DART to the fairgrounds, to work, on weekends, etc. I've also been going to the game for 30 years in a row. No matter how many times DART says that they've figured it out, they haven't. Unless I missed a memo, the RED and BLUE lines are all going to continue to travel into downtown, where fairgoers then have to transfer either onto the GREEN line, or, get on busses to continue to the fairgrounds. With a 2 pm game, possibly this would be ok. But, it's an 11am kickoff, and the stations are going to be overrun with people hurrying to get a corndog and beers before kickoff.

Do yourself (and whomever is with you), and drive to the game. Park as far as you have to, but I firmly believe you'll come out ahead even if you have to hike 30 minutes back to a lot.

If you'd like a suggested route, shoot me a PM with your general starting point, and I'll offer my advice.

We've taken the DART train the past two years from the Parker Rd Station and have never had a problem getting there or getting back. We try to get on one of the first trains in the morning and usually hang around for a little bit after the game.

In the past, they've had special red line trains that go straight to and from the fair -- no transfers downtown. I assume they'll do this again.

I haven't been in a couple years but this year I will take it again. We had no trouble going (we left early) but afterwards was a nightmare.

Do not use DART. Every time I've used them, no matter how early I leave for the game, I either arrive just at kick-off and have to hurry to the game, or I'm late.

Every. Single. Time.

EDIT: As an example, in 2009, our train stopped on the track for 2 hours for no good reason. We just waited, trapped on the train, for absolutely no reason.

They don't do the transfers any longer. Fairgoers take the "express" special event trains right to the Fair. The Red/Blue goes straight to the MLK Station. If you're lucky enough to get on the Green line, it goes to the Fair Station.

I've done it the past three years, and it was fine for me and the wife. Either way is a hassle, but I kind of like the idea of not bringing my car.

I spoke with an extremely nice and helpful DART representative for about 15 minutes yesterday and she informed me that the Green line instead of buses would be much better but warned me to come extremely early. Basically if you're not on one of the first 3 trains, you better have a back-up plan. She made it sound like a MINIMUM of 3 hours before the game would be necessary. It's not that bad because it's not like you have to sit around and wait in the stands, there's a whole fair going on outside. She also recommended I hang around for a while after the game and enjoy the fair due to massive amounts of people trying to leave directly at the end of the game.

How about just parking at Fair Park? I am thinking of getting there about 7 or 7:30, will parking at fairgrounds parking be full by then?

If the problem is "You got there 150 minutes early instead of 250 minutes early", then the real problem is something else.

Be parked or on a DART by 9:00AM. The traffic really closes down for the 11AM game.

One of the great things about Fair Park, so many backroads.
