Saw that Prevot has committed to them! For a team on probation they have put together a GREAT class. Is this their best in the last few years?

I note with envy that even though they are in the state with the most top athletes they recruit nationally (not just one or two guys).

Have you ever been there? It's quite beautiful in more ways than one. Kiffin is a young "hip", "swag" coach. It's got it pros for a kid in the market.. the cons are there, no doubt, but kids are kids after all

Top 5 places for a recruit to go and play regardless of school:

1.) South Beach
2.) Southern California
3.) Austin
4.) Tempe
5.) Hawaii

My opinion anyway, I don't like cold weather or the snow.

Whoa! Three 5 stars & fifteen 4 stars so far. Strong!!!

Hate that is had to be at our expense with Prevot. Was hoping he would be the next Horn!

They have 14 commits from the top 100 recruits in the nation according to Rivals. How is that possible in the middle of sanctions? I could be wrong about this, but I believe their roster will be at 75 this year, 65 next year, 55 the following year, 65 the next, and so on. I wouldn't want to play on a crippled roster like that.

I hope it won't be at our expense when we play them in 2017.

i think there's a good chance that USC finds someone better than prevot through the season and gently encourages him to consider going elsewhere.

Interesting. I wonder if he knows that Texas is going to be putting two DE in the first round with Jeffcoat and Okafor? Well that's what the NFL analyst are saying at least anyway. lol I hope Jeffcoat stays for his senior year though but if he bolted I wouldn't blame in. DE is a postion the NFL pays a premium for.

Good luck to Prevot though. We can't get them all.

You don't run off a player with Prevot's talent. He's light in the britches to be a DE, so unless he can put on some good weight, I could see SC turning him into an outside linebacker, or even a big safety. It would be interesting to know what went on between him and our coaches a few months ago that soured him on the Horns.

coolhorn, i think prevot's stock dropped a bit with his camp showings. and while his committment could certainly stick, it wouldnt surprise me if USC cold shouldered him at some point if another national DE gave them attention. hell i hope it happens because then A&M would have a shot at him.

they're about to do that with WR sebastian larue.

although USC's class is full, my guess is that they are still a bit fluid about who actually ends up signing there.

Yeah, silly me...I forgot that he learned from the master, Pete Carroll, while little Kiffin was on his staff for several years. Let's just say that little Kiffin got to put into practice what he learned at USC while he spent his nine months as head coach at fake orange UT.

USC is no different from any other school...they've gone through spells where their record, and recruiting were just average. Kiffin and staff can recruit so well right now because Pete Carroll came aboard and made USC a destination school over a decade ago. There was a definite dip in their program before Carroll.

Don't get me wrong...USC has some built in advantages, the biggest one being that they're in L.A., even if it's not the best neighborhood in town. They have a history of winning, and that's always easy to sell for a good recruiter. Kiffin the younger learned the trade under Carroll, and to his credit, he's put together a staff of good recruiters. Orgeron may have been a dud as a head coach, but he can recruit with the best of them.

I'm not fond of little Kiffin's tactics, and I still think they may come back to bite him in the behind, but I do have to give him some credit for how he's handled recuiting at S.C. with the NCAA sanctions in place. The jury's still out on his ability to coach up the players he gets on campus. Let's just say he hasn't proven to be the second coming of Pete Carroll just yet.

Good analysis Coolhorn. Two things to add: (1) Any USC athlete is a GOD in LA; (2) No one at USC is scared of the NCAA.

I would put Stanford on the list as well. Northern California is even nicer than southern California and you get a degree with maximum brand value.

Not sure what your disparagement of USC is about, Viper.

USC at 23

Texas at 45

I think it's obvious that the "rational people" at U.S .News would agree that a degree from USC is quite a valuable one (more marketable than one from Texas, e.g.), and people who think highly of USC aren't simply deluded. It's not Stanford, surely enough, but it's not Texas either.

So those "don't give a rat's ***" people in southern California just might know something that you apparently don't.
