A bronze medal is better than no medal. But I admit I am bothered by our inability to win gold medals in sports that are inherently ours: baseball, softball, BMX (which, IMO, shouldn't even be in the Olympics, but it is). Hopefully we can take both golds in basketball.

Imagine what a team composed of Manny, Kazmit, Utley, Josh Hamilton, etc. would have done to the Olympic field.

I kind of wish MLB would loosen up and allow the best American players to play for the Olympic team. But their home teams would not like that since they'd be without their services for an extended period of time.

Way to go Taylor and USA! I wish MLB wouldn't be so selfish and greedy and pause in August so the athletes could play in the olympics. We could have our best players and put the rest of the world in its' place. Other sports and teams postpone their season so their athletes can play such as the WNBA. This would be good not only for the USA but for other countries that have players in MLB. Some on MLB! Get with it. Who knows if they take that action the IOC might reinstate baseball and softball in the olympics in 2012!

One would think that promoting the sport worldwide would generate additional revenue and they would be all over that. Obviously Basketball sends their elite and I beleive Hockey shuts down during the winter Olympics.

Two weeks off at this point in the season would not be a bad thing....time to heal injuries and with top players in the Olympics, maybe you drum up excitement for the stretch run.

I personally wish the Olympics would go back to being for amateurs. But that probably isnt going to happen.

It would only need to be for 2 1/2 weeks or so for MLB. Wouldn't it be great to put our best players on the field for the USA team and put the world in it's place like our basketball players did?

Just move baseball to the Winter Games; then it won't interfere with the MLB schedule. You don't have to have it all in one place. China had most of the games in Beijing, but had equestrian events in Hong Kong, which is over 1200 miles away.

Maybe they should move the Summer Olympics to November or Februrary. It would even be summer when they hosted it in Australia....
