nice to have Jamie Carey call her. Looks like Ariel sank a three in the video. Man, that squad is going to be tough.

U17 team selected.

Congrats to Cox, Holmes, Mulkey, and Chou in representing Texas and our country next month:

Gonna have to watch those games.

Happy to see four Texans make the U17 team. I believe that's a quarter of the squad.

looks like the four Texans in the middle of the back row. . I recognize Lauren Cox, Nancy Mulkey, and Natalie Chou. I think that's Joyner Holmes between Mulkey & Chou.

U18 FIBA Championship to be in Colorado Springs .
Runs from Wednesday, August 6, through Sunday, August 10. Games are free and open to the public. Worth considering going to see Ariel and the US team.

U17 FIBA Championship Schedule starts Saturday, June 28 through Saturday, July 5. Looks like the team will play in France in an exhibition tournament before heading to the Czech Republic for the U17 tournament. They will be playing a lot of basketball but I hope they get a chance to sightsee a bit.

It just occurred to me that neither Lashann Higgs nor Jordan Hosey were participants in the trials. I recall that Higgs was born in the Bahamas, so that makes her ineligible. Still not sure why Hosey wasn't involved.

Neither Natalie Chou nor Joyner Holmes will have a chance to be the Texas Elite camp this summer (June 14-15) like they were last year as they will be practicing with the U17 team starting June 11 before the tournament.

AWARD WIINNERS

Most of the major 2014 National High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year awards were split between Brianna Turner, who earned the nod from Gatorade and USA Today; and A’ja Wilson, who collected the Naismith, Parade Magazine and WBCA awards. Ariel Atkins
took home the 2014 Morgan Wootten Player of the Year honor from the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Turner headlined the 2014 USA Today All-USA first team, which also featured Wilson; while Atkins
and Sierra Calhoun were All-USA second team selections.
Atkins,
Calhoun and Turner joined Wilson on the 2014 WBCA High School All-America Team, while 2014 WBCA High School All-America honorable mention went to Mikayla Cowling, Mariya Moore and Azurá Stevens.

Wilson was joined on the 2014 Parade Magazine All-American Team by Atkins,
Calhoun, Stevens and Turner.

I don’t ever get tired of reading about how our exes are doing nor of how well thought of our newcomers are. Ariel seems to be an elite level player the likes we haven’t seen around here since Tiffany Jackson.
