USA Bracket

Wow, did we luck out by winning our group. We play Ghana which is a winnable game. Ghana has only two goals in the tournament, both by penalty kicks. Uruguay or S. Korea would be our next match. Uruguay is actually pretty good. They remind me of Italy in 2006. They play tight but just beat you in the end. Still, I would rather play them than Brazil or Argentina. We could conceiveably make a decent run. If by miracles of miracles we made final 4, it would be pretty much end of story as we would more than likely run into Brazil.

Agreed. When I looked at the bracket, I couldn't believe how easy a path we would have to the semifinals (relatively speaking). I don't see any reason why we can't make it that far.

And after that, who knows? A lucky bounce here, a PK there, maybe an opponent gets sent off and they play with 10 men....nothing's impossible....

Gotta say I am with Gem on this one, nothing is a given at this stage and lets just enjoy the ride. This bracket is as favorable as we could possibly have hoped for but that is a guarantee of nothing and every team in the round of 16 is capable of beating the USA.

Well, I agree. We could easily lose to Ghana. We have the worst defense of any team in the final 16. I was just saying we have a much easier bracket than if we lost our group where we would be facing germany and then argentina.

general, you are still spot on regarding the fact that this is a dream bracket for USA. Certainly beats having to go through Germany and then likely Argentina as England must do. The USA is capable of getting to the semis without having to come up with a huge upset and that in and off itself is exciting.

The fact that each match will still be a huge struggle doesnt change that if you had told any US soccer fan 6 months ago that to get to the semifinals of the World Cup the US would have to beat Ghana and then either S. Korea or Uruguay they would have asked what you were drinking and if they could have some.

All of you know much more about the World Cup than I do. I do know one thing. Sometimes the old sports ball bounces in funny ways. Sometimes we are surprised. Sometimes we are amazed. Sometimes you just never know.

USA!!!! USA!!!!! USA!!!!

Thank you, Cesc, mighty nice of you to say! Can't wait for the Spain and Chile match coming up.
