Just a public service announcement - the US will face Guatemala tonight at 9:00 on ESPN2. It's the first game of the semifinal qualifying round.

OMG - on ESPN2 there's a baseball game that's tied in the 8th inning. They sure as hell better not keep showing that game when the match starts. My cable system doesn't have Galavision.

That was nuts. The Guats actually made the Mexicans look sporting. I'm glad their country sucks.

Good game by several of the Americans.

My favorite part - other than the goal - was Tim Howard slapping Ruiz's hand away.

Saw the last part of this match, what a dirty player that guy is. Kicked the U.S. goalie right in the face while he was on the ground. Screw Guatemala.

gutsy win but did no one else think that game was one of our most horribly played games in a long time?? the guats looked like spain the way they controlled possession in our half and made runs at goal.

michael bradley is a machine. a turnover machine. and he makes pretty bad decisions.

i like how ching played. knew to come back and help out on defense instead of waiting for the ball to come to him. unlike landon... who is completely and utterly useless without david beckham. i wouldnt' mind never seeing him on the pitch for the USMNT again.

tim howard is our best gk by far, not only b/c he has far superior talent than any other american goalie, but also b/c of his grittiness determination and leadership skills.

F Ruiz. he's the only soccer player who i actually hate.

why did edu not start? he needs to be starting. so does kljestan.

gooch did a lot of small things right but unfortunately also had some lapses in coverage a couple times.

The rest of the results in the region make realize more and more how much cake the final hex is going to be for the US and Mexico. Canada gives points at home to Jamaica, Costa Rica barely survives El Salvador at home. Honduras scared the daylights out of Mexico, but it was somewhat understandable considering it was SGE's first game at the helm.

If Honduras can find any kind of consistency and make it to the hex, they will qualify and give their WC group everything they can handle. Suazo is a load, but he ain't the only one. That is easily the best central american team I have ever seen.

I agree with gsoda about Edu and Kljestan. Pairing two defensive-oriented central midfielders is killing our attack, and M. Bradley is really struggling right now. Let him go back to Holland and get back to a normal routine for a while.

Once again, we desperately need help at left back. Pearce isn't inspiring much confidence, and I shudder to think that Bornstein may return to the lineup. We've got to hope that Jonathan Spector makes his way back to form, and soon. Can Demerit fit there?

I'd love to see an attack-minded lineup of Altidore, Adu, Kljestan, Donovan, and Beasley, with Edu as the defensive central midfield anchor. Just once to see what would happen, maybe after we clinch a spot in the final round of qualifying.

2 words: f'ing savages. Nice people down there that our injured player (bleeding profusely, likely concussion from a red card foul), has to be escorted out by riot police.

Ruiz is the biggest piece of crap I've seen in a long time. I SOOOO wanted Howard to lay him out - it would almost have been worth the red. I wonder what a bad *** he'd be if he met Tim alone somewhere?

Can they not afford lighting in their crappy little country? WTF? How many candles were they lighting the pitch with?
