I like Landon coming off the bench and Freddy grew a pair with his performance in the Semi. Mexico is beatable, we're not that far off from them and I see this game going 2-1 to either team.
I have been able to watch most games but have missed why Landon is coming off the bench. Can somebody enlighten me please?
My sweet little boy sat and watched all the games with me last summer but now he runs around and causes trouble and makes game watching a little more difficult
Landon went to his twin sisters wedding last weekend I believe, arriving back the day of the Jamaica game and thus was unable to be with team or practice for a couple of days and so they have been working him back in slowly. Expect him to start this weekend.
We have recently come close to dominating Mexico in head to head play, at least in results. I just am very nervous about this match. It will be held in front of a majority Mexican crowd in SoCal, which always gives our boys extra motivation. I still can't believe we pay 'away' on US soil. Anyway, I don't think we win this one. We just haven't looked that strong. I do hope I am wrong, but I see a 3-1 Mexico victory.
The U.S. has emerged from the knockout round with marked improvement over their initial round. Mexico, after being on fire in the initial round, had much closer matches.
Mexico is as talented and skilled as its been in a long time. But the U.S. had the ability to pull off some great victories against Mexico recently, especially at home. Look for Landon to start and add some inspirational play in the midfield.
Tim Howard will have to keep goal like its the Battle of the Bulge as Mexico's strikers are fierce. With Memo Ochoa serving a suspension, back-up Alfredo Talavera is responsible for tending goal for Mexico, a situation he can rise to, or fall apart. The Yanks will exploit the tremendous pressure on him.
The U.S. has a great chance as Mexico's usual confidence could well lead to a collapse on the field. The U.S. wins on penalty kicks.
Final is 4-2 Mexico, US blows an early 2 nil lead after Bradley scores in 8th minute and Donovan in the 23rd. Barrera with two goals for tri colores and Dos Santos one along with Guardado.
Adu actually played well but overall a disappointing effort for US and better team won.
Will this finally signal an end to the Bradley error, probably not but that is what US soccer has become, a distant second in our own region to the only other quality side in CONCACAF.
The biggest issue that I saw was the the defense was extremely slow to the ball. That last goal was an abomination. How many US players stood around not really know what to do. We need to put at least 2 defenders right at the ball. That is Mexico did on Adu after a few good plays by him.
Enough of this nonsense. Twenty minute flashes of brilliance every two or three matches is not the sign of a team on the rise. This squad continues to fail at some of the most fundamental levels, mostly the inability to play up to the level it is easily capable of for a complete ninety minutes, and that is what is killing us. And it is not because of the lack of talent on the pitch. Bob Bradley continues to be the weakest link on this squad. I have screamed it for a long time. I am sick of it. A great victory or two here and there is not enough nor is it a fair way to guage our supposed progress. He quite simply does not have what it takes to make the best of what he has or to take this team to a consistently high level of international competition. The change needs to be made now.
Cherundalo going out certainly didn't help anything. We need a better defense though. Our marking was atrocious. Mexico has some of the most talented strikers they have ever had, that should be remembered. Our defense looked foolish though. I mean absolutely silly. We shouldn't look that silly vs. anyone in the world. Our defensive midfield needs to improve as well.
I was pleased with what happened up top for us. We looked more offensively competent than we have in a long time, maybe ever. We got some creative balls forward, and some great team play. I really liked Dempsey in more of a mid field supporting role with Donovan up top. I really think Dempsey plays some great balls through, and that Donovan can finish better than anyone else on our team. I also thought Adu did a good job as well.
Putting Bornstein in was the worst decision yesterday.

This was bad, I don't know how he is even on the team. Bradley has to go. USA up 2-0 was miracle in the first place. Mexico was beating our back the netire game and were unlucky not to have scored at that point. USA should have gone back into a defensive mode with the lead and simply countered when given the opportunity. Did they do that...no, Mexico continued to get behind our defense the rest of the game. It was a pretty disgraceful display tactically. Also, performing the entire award ceremony is spanish only on american soil was pretty insulting.
The awards ceremony was in both english and spanish, regardless of what Tim Howard and the apologist US soccer media will have you believe, who for some reason have yet to clarify his error.
I would be more insulted by Timmy's rancid performance.
No, it was not the same team at all. In fact, only one player played both tournaments.
The team that represented Mexico in South America was made up of teenagers and league scrubs, thanks to a CONCACAF mandate that Mexico could only play the Copa America with U23 side +5 reinforcements.
To make matters worse, they sent home 8 players (6 starters) a week before the tournament because of a prostitution scandal. The team that took the field literally had only a handful of practices together. It was ugly.
